In the early 1970s Christian Mari and I would meet regularly in Solana Beach, California, and do word-jam music improvs. We alternated on piano, clarinet (which Christian was a master), spontaneous poem-vocals, and other assorted sound creation, recording on a SONY reel-to-reel TC-650. Eric Hybertsen (sax, guitar), Richard Carter (sound FX, recording) often joined us. Christian’s Algerian and Parisian youth along with mine in New York City, created a crazy-vibrant cross cultural noise that reflected the radical 1960s-70s energies of the time.
